The Hollywood Script Reader

Cecelia has worked as a story analyst in the film industry since practically the day she arrived in Los Angeles almost eight years ago, and in that time has worked for a number of LA-based companies and read an estimated 4-5000 scripts, books and plays.  So she’s not sweating it, either.

    Whoa, girl,
I’m a pro reader, too, here in LA (2 hrs per script — 3 scripts a day) and I admire your moxie, but aren’t you afraid you’re gonna get fired?

    Namaste,
Doug (of course it’s not my real name, I work for too many assholes to put it in.):)

    I have a question.
How exactly does one become a script reader. While in film school, I interned at production companies and read a ton of scripts and wrote coverage for free.
I was told that in order to get paid to read I should call companies, speak to the story editor. But so far I’ve been pretty unsuccessful.
is there some other way of getting a script reading job?

Cecelia, I do the same thing, but with 30 years experience in getting films made and actually producing them. My coverage is an intensive, first-class script consulting service to help writers, directors, and producers greatly improve their material before submitting it in Hollywood or to investors, and to assess a project’s viability in the marketplace on a creative, financial, and strategic basis. Much broader than creative coverage alone, and like you, I am ALWAYS reading something!! Good luck!

I live in New York City…I am a screenwriter interested in making money as a reader. Any leads in the Big Apple for me? I have another job but with this economy, It could be gone by the end of this E-mail.

    Thanks for hearing me!

I also wrote a review of the Tucker Max script but I wasn’t aware of it until a year after you did. You can find it here posted on your blog comments and I also posted it at the I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell message board at IMDB.
