Back soon
August 31, 2008
Just a quick blog to say Happy Labor Day and that I should be back shortly. Between the holiday commitments and some work I have to get done asap – I’m a bit slammed to come with any sort of proper blog.
Also, I wanna keep throwing this out every now and then: if any one has any questions or topics they’d like me to talk about – please let me know.
See you all soon.

Happy labor day to you. I hope you get some work done. And I tried to get your “21 Jump Street” script, but I couldn’t lay my hands on it. I guess since it wasn’t a spec, it didn’t go out wide. Either that or I just have industry friends in low places. Oh, well. I’ll have to trust it was genius. I’m interested in what your thoughts are on the best time to go out with a spec. Also, do you let your manager/agents take care of getting it out there or did you slip it to some people first?
Hey, well, just send me your email address to gazzgator@aim.com
It’s the email I use for all my junk email, but I’ll look for your message. Just title it something I can pick out. I’ll send you a pdf of the script.
As far as getting my specs out early — I slip it to people I want to give me notes. But as far as selling it, I’d only slip it to someone that I was REALLY good friends with and also had some buying power.
Normally your agent is connecting your spec to a bunch of different producers who will take it into the studio they have a first look deal with. So if you slip it too many places, you could screw up that process.
Awesome. I just sent you an email with “21 Jump Street Script” in the header. I’m looking forward to reading it.
We don’t have Labor Day here in sunny, cheerful England but I intend to wish a happy one upon you anyway.
I just got back from (genuinely) sunny Corfu….not far from where they shot Captain Corelli’s Mandolin I believe. That’s about the closest I’ve come to Nic Cage. I re-tooled my spec by the pool, and got to thinking about trying to hit up agents with the finished jobbie…..
So, bit of a general question then Joe. How did you first hit the agent trail? Did you do anything special to make yourself ‘noticed’. Someone told me agents hate this, and the work (if any good) will speak for itself….
Hey,
I just read the script and sent you an email about it to your gazzgator@aim address. In a word–fucking fantastic. Okay, that was two words, but the email has my full review.
Thanks dude, sent you a reply via email!
Joe, you officially have to remove ‘Daily Blog’ from the top of the site.
I know, I suck. I’ve been sooooooooo slammed lately. Haven’t been able to exhale. I’m probably gonna shut down for a while. Maybe poke my head in and write something on occasion. I talked with the web site guys and they are very understanding.
If you have any questions, they are triggered into my email. So I can definitely respond to posts!
Actually I do have a question, Mr G……
Software. What are you using for writing / typesetting? I use CeltX which I get on well with, is free, and pretty effing good in my humble opinion.
Unless you are truly hardcore of course, and do it all from encyclopedic formatting knowledge and a mere word processor….
Rob
I actually use Final Draft.
It’s a little pricey — about $180, but it’s really easy. The less you have to worry about format, etc, the easier it is to write!
