I’ll be back!
July 24, 2008
Just a quick post to let you guys know that I’ll be on vacation till the second week in August. I would love to say that I’m going off to recharge my batteries, but I will no doubt be working in my head 24/7.
I’m off to the Florida Keys, perfect for relaxing. But…I’ve got a TV pitch that I’m putting together that needs to go out asap. I’ve also got a bunch of spec ideas I’m trying to work – trying to figure out which to write next.
So, while my body will be horizontal by the pool, my brain will be going full blast. One of the hazards of writing – you can do it any time, anywhere.
But hopefully I will come back a little tanner and a little more recharged.
Until then!

Hey Joe -
Love the blog and find a lot of it really helpful. I’d be really interested to hear more about getting the right people to read your work. I know you touched on it a bit in your first blog entry, but do you have any specific networking tips? (ie - taking screenwriting courses to build contacts, sending out query letters, loitering in front of prominent producers homes, etc.)
Thanks a lot.

(but, uhm, not you)
(obviously)
Same here, Squire. Off on my merry holidays to sit round a pool and recuperate - read as ‘do more writing in moderately hotter surroundings’…
Truth be known as a mere mortal I’m doing this on an amateur basis…I just got cast in an upcoming British feature :

One of the persons involved mentioned in passing that they thought I could write and *blam*. One re-ignited interest in screenwriting.
Hence I’ll be re-drafting my spec yet again whilst becoming imbued with the unique powers of ouzo and / or unsociable levels of whiskey, surely doing my part to sustain the true image of British denizens abroad.
Your blog is a godsend, Mr Gazzam. Please keep bequeathing your useful thought-nuggets, for we are listening. I’d also like to ask two things;
1) Did you enjoy your break?
2) What was your very first step in submitting your first spec? Did you seek an agent, do things off your own back, or just luck out?
TTFN,

The break was great, hot as hell though. Thanks for asking. Congrats on the feature, that’s awesome!
As for the spec — yeah, pretty much everything starts with getting an agent. And you get an agent, by having something they think they can sell — which could be your re-tooled spec!! God luck.
