ASK ME SOMETHING/ANYTHING ABOUT HOLLYWOOD CAREERS

October 30, 2009

Hi there Film Industry Bloggers. I’ve been following my own advice and focusing on what’s most important. Unfortunately that’s caused me to put my posting here on temporary hold till I came up for air.

So I’m inspired to do this a little bit differently. Here’s what I’m thinking:

You ask questions. I’ll provide some answers.

What are you wondering, planning, scheming, writing? Post your questions on the comments section below and I’ll respond as my next blog post here. This way I get to know what you want to know and you get me responding to what you want to know?

How about that for interactive?

OK. Go ahead, make my day!

Would love to but not in a public forum. Can you send me an e-mail and do it privately? Perhaps you can then blog about it.

That’s so funny because I just did the exact same thing on my fanpage on Facebook! I think many of us in Hollywood are cloaked behind this security of being “unavailable” to interact with, so I’m throwing it out there too.
I just got back in town from the Savannah Film Festival, my mind is still spinning, but I’ll think of something and write back for sure. Love that you’re doing this!

(for all of you who are interested in asking a casting director something…here’s the link!)

Hi there. I’ve been an independent casting director for over 30 years, casting mostly studio feature films with a few indies and tv pilots thrown in. “Independent”, meaning I don’t work for a studio and I’m freelance. Things have been going very well until the last couple of years when the “perfect storm” hit the business. The Writer’s strike, the de-facto SAG strike, followed by the economy tanking last year. Studios have stockpiled projects and have almost stopped green-lighting films, or they are green-lighting fewer and fewer films. The traditional resources to go to for financing for indies has also shifted greatly. People are scared. Seems like the business model for studio and indie film distribution, financing, etc. has completely changed….but I’m not quite sure what it’s going to change into.

What do you think the adjustment (or fall-out!) will be in this end of the business. How’s a girl supposed to make a living as a casting director with so few films being green-lit?!

    Hi David,
I have written about 5 novels that needs publication but I can’t have the money to work on the publishing, can I sell the story for some money to assist in my publication.
