I am about to start shooting ARCTIC BLAST starring Michael Shanks on Monday. Preparations are in high gear, but I am taking the time to enjoy a second viewing of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS this weekend and watch a Tasmanian audience enjoy it. Recently El Q presented my Vietnam war movie THE SIEGE OF FIREBASE GLORIA double billed with THE LOSERS at Cinemapocalypse in Austin, Texas (video).

Why MGM won’t release FIREBASE on DVD is a mystery to me. They would sell a lot of copies to the Marine Corps just for openers. Plus R. Lee Ermey! FIREBASE fans should call MGM and ask…

    Hi from Italy :)
I love Michael Shanks! I hope you can post some photos of him and the cast and location, I like behind the scene! Good luck with the movie and I hope it’s not too cold in Hobart!

“Gloria” is a fantastic movie! I wrote a review of the other day:

And strangely, today I ordered four of your movies: Day of the Panther, Strike of the Panther, Stunt Rock and The Man from Hong Kong - a lot of Brian Trenchard-Smith right now ;)

    Dear Mr. Trenchard-Smith,

I’m a great fan of your work and love to read your blog.
I write for a magazine called Nocturno Cinema, which is like the italian Fangoria.
Every month we pubblish a 66 page dossier, covering a specific genre or director(s).
The last issue is dedicated to the wonderful world of Ozploitation and - believe it or not - there are 5 pages covering your work (the biggest chunck dedicated to a director in the whole issue), that I had the pleasure to write.
You’ll probably never read it, cause it’s in italian (but even then it’s nice to look through - Mark Hartley was so kind to send us a ton of photgraphic material), but I thought you would be pleased knowing that your work is still much appreciated amongst genre fans.

    Here is the cover

I was wondering if there was any chance for me to contact you in private (via mail) and maybe get an autograph.

Anyway, good luck with your next movie

    Best Wishes

I didn’t find ‘Inglorious Basterds’ so fun. I mean, it had some fun moments– but I was pretty bored for lots of it. Which is disappointing as, like everyone, I love Tarantino! Oh well, every parent has their favourite children.

I think the continuing robust box office indicates a lot of people were not bored.
” Grindhouse”receipts fell away quickly - though I loved it - which showed I was in the minority. Tarantino’s latest, his most sophisticated movie yet, clearly has legs and resonates with a large number of his fans. Sorry it did not work for you. Thanks for the comment.

Got something to say?
