A Message from the Trenches
December 4, 2008
As I am in the thick of final preparations for shooting my next movie, I have no time to write something meaningful. Instead here’s the recording of my introduction and Q & A that I did at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas for their presentation of THE MAN FROM HONG KONG. A few war stories to amuse you. Many thanks to Freddie Avalos at Texas Geek for the support.

Hi there Brian,
I believe that THE MAN FROM HONG KONG will be getting its first wide commercial DVD release this month through Madmen Entertainment here in Australia. I already have a DVD that was previously put out by the Screen Archive of Australia, so I assume it will be a re-release of that one.
This must be exciting for you, as it will be for the fans of the movie such as myself.
Anyway, would you care to comment on what it was like to work with ex-Bond George Lazenby? The members of CommanderBond.net would be interested to know your thoughts on the collaboration.
Cheers,
Brett “Blofeld’s Cat” McAleer
Hi Brett, we just started shooting, so my mind and energy is elsewhere. But in short Geoge was easy to work with, cuntrary to his reputation at the time.
Ask me again in January. I do like Daniel Craig as the latest Bond.
Might be more interesting asking about Jimmy Wang Yu, considering the comments made in Not Quite Hollywood.
Brett, the Madman DVD of The Man From Hong Kong is meant to be in the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 unlike the cropped Screensound Australia disc. The new release also includes more extras such as two more of Brian’s films.
I should’ve watched the link before commenting as I see Brian did get asked about Jimmy and gave a very diplomatic response.
There were a heap of DVDs I was going to buy, including this one, but I am still not working at the moment. Hopefully the downturn doesn’t affect sales that much.
Lots of 80s stuff in the bargain bins already and good ones like Romper Stomper.
There’s a lot of good retro-oz on the market now, but the essential purchase is NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD, which puts our genre films in an historical and international context, and thereby enhances our appreciation of the ones we add to our collection.
