Thank you Easter Bunny…

Happy Passover/Easter/any excuse to not be in the office week! Really, what is the point? If I leave a message for an agent to call me back, this is the worst week to expect an answer, so me being Zen, I am regrouping and trying to make the magic of independent feature films happen.

I am reading a lot of scripts and being proactive and meeting with Producers I do not know and sending out my resume and cold calling. It’s what I have to do to make work happen. I hate it, but until I am the A-list Casting Director that is in my mind, I still have to make work happen. It does not come to me.

In these “harsh economic times” (my new catch phrase) I am also looking to reduce my expenses, so I am now going to be sharing office space with another Casting Director and a Producer. I am very excited and nervous about this new venture, but I am also looking forward to not talking to myself during the day like a crazed maniac. It will be nice to bounce off ideas and share information with a peer. So crossing fingers that it all works out – I am sure it will. The good news is I get to keep the space I am currently in, which will now be a casting studio/meeting room and have my own office, while still sharing expenses and reducing my overhead. Suzy Orman would be proud…

Last night I did an acting workshop and the caliber of actors was actually really good. The actors came up to me afterwards and thanked me for giving them notes and adjustments and an insight to my process and what I think actors need to do to get a job. I figure if an actor is paying to see/read for me they should get the most out of me. I put a lot of time and energy into the workshops and I want to teach acting one day, so this is like the first step and confirmation that the work I do is worth it.

Polish Bar is wrapped. Now what? Well if every script I am attached to actually got a green light, I would be a very happy man. So, I am now actively trying to cast 3 films and working on a dozen more. More news to come soon…
